Dust Storm‐Enhanced Gravity Wave Activity in the Martian Thermosphere Observed by MAVEN and Implication for Atmospheric Escape

چکیده

Lower atmospheric global dust storms affect the small- and large-scale weather variability of whole Martian atmosphere. Analysis CO$_2$ density data from Neutral Gas Ion Mass Spectrometer instrument (NGIMS) on board NASA's Mars Atmosphere Volatile EvolutioN (MAVEN) spacecraft show a remarkable increase GW-induced fluctuations in thermosphere during 2018 major storm with distinct latitude local time variability. The mean thermospheric GW activity increases by factor two event. magnitude relative perturbations is around 20% average 40% locally. One half months later, gradually decreases. Enhanced temperature disturbances can facilitate escape. For first time, we estimate that, for disturbances, net Jeans escape flux hydrogen 1.3 2, respectively.

Retrieval of CO2 and N2 in the Martian thermosphere using dayglow observations by IUVS on MAVEN

We present direct number density retrievals of carbon dioxide (CO2) and molecular nitrogen (N2) for the upper atmosphere of Mars using limb scan observations during October and November 2014 by the Imaging Ultraviolet Spectrograph on board NASA’s Mars Atmosphere and Volatile EvolutioN (MAVEN) spacecraft. We use retrieved CO2 densities to derive temperature variability between 170 and 220 km. An...

Time-dispersed ion signatures observed in the Martian magnetosphere by MAVEN

Mars Atmosphere and Volatile Evolution Mission’s (MAVEN) high-cadence measurements reveal the frequent occurrence of ion energy dispersion events inside the Martian magnetosphere. The systematics of observed dispersion signatures suggest time dispersion of a broad source spectrum over a flight distance of a few thousand kilometers and disfavormechanisms involving spatial dispersion. Pickup of h...

Plasma clouds and snowplows: Bulk plasma escape from Mars observed by MAVEN

We present initial Mars Atmosphere and Volatile EvolutioN (MAVEN) observations and preliminary interpretation of bulk plasma loss from Mars. MAVEN particle and field measurements show that planetary heavy ions derived from the Martian atmosphere can escape in the form of discrete coherent structures or “clouds.” The ions in these clouds are unmagnetized or weakly magnetized, have velocities wel...

Effect of Atmospheric Dust on Interannual Variability in the Martian

Mars Observer Camera (MOC) observations from Mars Global surveyor (MGS) revealed that the Residual South Polar Cap (RSPC) consists of several units that show evidence of deposition and erosion with characteristic times on the order of ~ 100 years [1]. These authors suggested that significant changes observed in the RSPC between MY 9, when Mariner 9 observed the cap,, and MY 12, observed by Viki...

the search for the self in becketts theatre: waiting for godot and endgame

this thesis is based upon the works of samuel beckett. one of the greatest writers of contemporary literature. here, i have tried to focus on one of the main themes in becketts works: the search for the real "me" or the real self, which is not only a problem to be solved for beckett man but also for each of us. i have tried to show becketts techniques in approaching this unattainable goal, base...
